Karelia Falls

Description:

Karelia is an amazing region of Russia, famous for its picturesque landscapes, dense forests and crystal clear lakes. The real gems of this region are its waterfalls. They fascinate travelers with their pristine beauty and unusual forms, recalling the great power of nature, which continues to create its masterpieces for centuries. The waterfalls of Karelia are not just water currents running down rocky shores; they are places where history and culture meet.

Paddocks and braids. Our waterfalls. The exact number of Karelian waterfalls is not known, and even more so! On one river Shuya there are more than 50.

There are famous and famous waterfalls. Perhaps the most famous is the Kivach waterfall on the Suna River. The waterfall became known thanks to Olonets Governor Gavril Romanovich Derzhavin. In the summer of 1785 he visited Kivach. The power and greatness of the waterfall so impressed Derzhavin that he wrote an ode to “Waterfall”, which glorified Kivach.

There are waterfalls less well-known - Kumi Threshold, Yukankoski, Akhinkoski or Ruskeal waterfalls. There are waterfalls unnamed, but no less picturesque and interesting.

There are temporary waterfalls - "work" only in spring. For example, Onnenkoski Falls or Happiness Falls. Why happiness? Because once where this waterfall was located was the farm of Onela or the Land of Happiness.

There are waterfalls that come to life at the behest of a human hand! These waterfalls are blocked by dams for the needs of hydroelectric power plants. In the spring, when the flood, the "extra" water has to get rid of. During this period, the dam is opened. Tacon phenomenon we call the spillway. The most famous waterfall with a dam is Girvas.

Waterfalls are our special passion! They are all different and all unique.

Some names are worth it! It's a song.

Onnenkoski, Prokinkoski, Koirinoyakoski, Lyaskelyakoski, Mulyukoski, Ahinkoski, Yukankoski.

But it is better to see once than to read a hundred times. A tour of the waterfalls is among my excursions.

Waterfall hunters! What could be better?
