Podporozhye Local History Museum
About the company:
In 1965, a local history circle was formed in the Podporozhye House of Culture. One small room turned into a corner of the history of Prisvirya. The work on the creation of a public museum was led by I.S. Tolstoy. Since December 1967, the circle became a people's museum, and in 1969, by the decision of the Podporozhye City Executive Committee, it was transformed into a local history museum.
Over the years of activity, a rich material on the history of Prisvirya has been collected. Of greatest interest are collections of archeology, ethnography, historical documents, photographic materials about the Great Patriotic War and the construction of Svir power plants. The expositions cover different periods of history: from ancient times to the present day.
The museum presents stationary exhibitions: "Nature of Prisvirya"; "Our land in the distant past" (tells about the life of ancient people, since the Neolithic era); "Life of the Prisvir villages" (acquaints with the main occupations, crafts and crafts of the local population of the late XIX - early XX centuries; one of the most significant collections of the museum reflects the material culture of the Vepsians); "They went to immortality" (represented relics of the Great Patriotic War, materials on the Afghan War and the Chechen campaign); "X century Stage" of the Verpozi history of the city.
