Tour of Izborsk and Pechora

Description:

Izborsk was first mentioned in the chronicle in 862 and is one of the oldest cities in Russia. Over its centuries-old history, a small town on the western edge of the Pskov land has repeatedly found itself in the thick of historical events and even managed to completely move from one place to another. Now Izborsk is a small village, in the center of which stands one of the oldest stone fortresses in Russia surrounded by stunning landscapes.

The date of foundation of the Pskov-Pechora monastery is considered to be 1473. The place is unique, both for its history and beauty. Appearing west of Izborsk, the fortress of the Pechora Monastery assumed the role of defender of the western borders, and the monastery itself is the only not closed monastery on the territory of modern Russia.

What awaits us:

During a standard excursion, we will visit the Izborsk fortress of the XIV century, climb one of its towers to admire the stunning landscapes of the Mal Valley and go down to the secret underground passage leading from the fortress. Then we will walk to the Slovenian keys to drink healing key water and admire the majestic swans on Gorodischenskoye Lake, and then walk to the origins of Izborsk - Truvorov settlement of the VII century.

After Izborsk we go to Pechora, where we will explore the Pechora Monastery. The monastery is located at the bottom of a deep ravine, and therefore we will begin the inspection with observation platforms, from which the entire territory of the monastery opens as if in the palm of your hand. Passing beyond the walls of the monastery, we will plunge into the silence and dimension of the monastery life, talk about what the monastery lived for many centuries. Visit the temples of the monastery and the so-called small caves.
