Excursion to the estates of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov: Lyubensk and Vechasha

Description:

The former estates of Lyubensk and Vechash in the Plussky district of the Pskov region, closely associated with the name of the great Russian composer Nikolai Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov, are now part of the memorial estate museum. You will learn where the master worked, what inspired him, get acquainted with the life of the composer and his family, learn where he found eternal peace. A visit to these estates not only introduces the life and work of the composer, but also gives an idea of the landscape features of ancient Russian estates.

The composer’s family filmed the estate as a dacha for six years. It was here, surrounded by nature, he breathed and worked so easily, here he wrote his famous operas Sadko, The Night Before Christmas, The Tale of Tsar Saltan and others. The exposition of this house is devoted to the theme of nature in the work of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov. Immediately you will find the recreated office of the composer, where things from the Vechash house are presented, in the exposition you will see lifetime editions, musical autographs, sketches of scenery, theater costumes from the Mariinsky Theatre, photographs and much more. In this house, a concert hall has been restored, in which theatrical excursions take place, art exhibitions and performances of artists are held, a stationary exhibition dedicated to folk applied art of the Plus region is placed. A separate inspiration is the memorial park on the shore of the Song Lake, broken up in the late XVIII century. You can feel what inspired the great composer to create masterpieces.

A kilometer and a half from Vechashi is located the estate of Lyubensk. Nikolai Andreevich acquired it for himself in the Pskov lands that he loved so much. The composer liked to relax in a gazebo under an old limestone, with a bench and a frame of shrubs, near the eastern alley. Here came inspiration, immortal works were born: it was in Lubenska that the opera “Golden Cockerel” was completed. Unfortunately, he was the owner of this country house for a short time: a year after the purchase of the estate, Nikolai Andreevich died, but his children and their families continued to improve and preserve this place in memory of his father and the great composer. Today, the main manor house with memorial rooms, a stable, a poultry house and much more are restored here, expositions dedicated to the composer’s family and his last years of life are presented. In the mezzanine there is a room, from the windows of which a wonderful view of the Song Lake opens. The improvement of the manor garden and park with picturesque ponds, alleys and gazebos continues.
