Pskov

Individual excursion to the city of Ostrov with a visit to the Museum “Stalin Line”

Description:

The island is an ancient Russian city, first mentioned in the chronicle in 1341. Because of the border situation, this city was destined to become an outpost in the south of the Pskov Republic and for many years to restrain the onslaught of the Livonian Order, and in the XX century to fiercely resist the invasion of fascist invaders, because in the 30s of the last century, the “Stalin Line” ran near the Island, consisting of bunkers with anti-tank and anti-personnel obstacles, trenches and dugouts. Today it is a museum complex with a memorial military burial, where in addition to fortifications you can see a collection of rare military equipment.

The main attraction and symbol of the city, by right, are the unique chain bridges over the Great River, built in 1853. In addition, during the tour of the city we will see the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker - the oldest stone building in the Island, a monument to Claudia Nazarova, Simansky Savior-Kazan convent.
