Pskov

The island is a brave Pskov suburb

Description:

The tour is dedicated to the southern suburb of ancient Pskov - the Island. In the XIV century there was a fortress, covering the southern approaches to Pskov. Its defenders more than once had to repel the onslaught of the enemy and show their courage. And, although the fortress itself, as well as the strategic importance of the Island, were lost in the XVIII century, this did not mean that the war bypassed these lands. During the Great Patriotic War, a serious tank battle broke out here, in which the tankers of the 3rd Panzer Division managed even for some time to drive the Germans out of the captured city. Their feat in the story will be given special attention. However, in the city itself today there is a beautiful monument of the peaceful era - unique hanging bridges across the Great River. The history of their construction is the subject of special discussion.

If desired, the tour can be expanded with a visit to the local museum and the Museum of the Great Patriotic War, which presents one of the best collections of small arms in Russia. It can also be expanded. A trip to the so-called Stalin Line is a system of defensive structures created near the Island in 1938-1939.
