Pskov

View of the Pskov fortress from the west

Description:

The Great River in the historical part of the city flows almost perfectly from south to north. Pskov fortress is located on the eastern, right bank. The length of the fortress wall along the river bank is 2.6 km. The extreme points of this part of the fortress are - in the north Varlamov Tower, and in the south Pokrovskaya. There were 10 battle towers on the river. There are 8 towers these days.

The Pskov Kremlin is also located on the banks of the Great River (in the northwestern part of the fortress). And from the left bank of the river there is a magnificent view. In addition to the fortress from the left bank, other objects are visible: Trinity Cathedral, former monastery farmsteads, earthen mounds of Peter’s time.

On the left-west bank of the Great River there were "overseas" trading yards. It was from here that foreign merchants looked at Pskov. Therefore, the proposed excursion route, passing along the left bank of the Great River, is, among other things, the opportunity to look at Pskov through the eyes of foreigners.

Against the fortress in chronicle times there were also monasteries and one parish church. The story of the tour will also be about them.
