Church of the Cross

Pskov region, Pushkin mountains, village Velje

Description:

The church was built in 1763, when the land of the village of Velle was managed by L. A. Travin. He was a wise manager, and history remembered him as a prudent administrator and a talented local historian. The building of the church is an architectural monument and is made of brick of the fortress walls of the old settlement of Velje. Inside there is an ancient iconostasis, as well as a wooden cross that came here from Jerusalem. It was brought by pilgrims before the First World War.

It is worth noting that the church is one of the few buildings that survived the Great Patriotic War. According to one legend, church chants from the temple touched the soul of the German general, and he did not touch the building.
