Lake Vemno

Venyansky parish, Novorzhevsky district, Pskov region, Russia. 4 km from the highway Pushgory-Novorzhev.

Description:

The lake is small, covers an area of 2.3 square kilometers or 234 hectares, not deep, its depth is 4 meters, the maximum is 7 meters. This lake is famous for a large number of fish - bream, glue, pike, carp, lim, etc. There is a pine forest near the shore. The main attraction of Vekhno is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

Since the XIII century there was a wooden church, but it was dilapidated. And instead of the old one at the expense of the landowner Major Ivan Kokoshkin in 1767, a new stone church was built, which operates to this day. Several years ago, the church itself was renovated, a patterned gate with a brick arch and a cobblestone fence (it was installed in 1877). Near the church still grow maples, lindens, ash and elms, which are 120 years or more.

The Church of the Transfiguration in the village of Vekhno, is one of two churches of the XVIII century in the Novorzhevsky district, where a carved iconostasis made of wood has been preserved to this day.

The old landlord park has also been preserved in Vekhno, although in a neglected state. In the XIX century, the estate of the landowner Kokoshkin was built near the park, but it was almost completely destroyed after the war. And 4 kilometers from Vekhno is the village of Altun and the famous old estate of Pskov landowners Lviv. The estate has been restored and equipped in the hotel "Imenie Altun".
