Description:

One of the beautiful places of the Pushkinogorsk district of the Pskov region is Lake Velje. It is located 33 kilometers west of the village of Pushkin Mountains. The lake itself covers an area of 4.5 square kilometers or 453.0 hectares. The depth is 1 meters, sometimes 2.7 meters.

Velje is one of the cleanest lakes of the Pskov region. The water in this lake is so clean that you can drink it even without boiling! Rich in fish (main species - roach, perch). The banks are gentle and swampy, around the lake there is a forest where there are many berries and mushrooms.

Not far from the coast there are several villages - Ilyinskoye, Lyamons, Klyuki, Kryuchkovo, Vasili, Grebeni, and near the shore - the village of Velje.

The first settlement on the shore of the lake appeared in the XIV century. The village of Vellier reached a special flourishing in the XIX century, when flax farming appeared. There were many merchant dynasties in this village.

Since the end of the XX century, Lake Velje, the historical part of the village of Velje, as well as the settlement Velje belong to the Museum-Reserve of A. S. Pushkin.
