Monument to Pushkin and the Peasant
ooh Lev Tolstoy, 7, Pskov, Pskov region
Description:
The monument "Pushkin and Peasant Woman" was solemnly opened on June 3, 1983 in the Pushkin Summer Garden in the city of Pskov during the XVII All-Union Poetry Festival dedicated to the poet.
Despite the fact that officially the monument is called "Pushkin and the peasant", popularly it is known as "Pushkin and the nanny". Previously, there were no monuments dedicated to the great Russian poet.
The sculptor spent about ten years creating the work. Long before the official creation of the masterpiece, he began work on the creation of a future composition.
The monument shows us not only Pushkin, but also his nanny. The author of the monument claimed that the image of the woman is collective, shows a simple rural woman. Her face is kind, her hands are tired, hardworking and tender.
The location of the monument is quite successful. It quickly blended into urban culture and became a decoration of the Summer Garden of the city of Pskov. Every year Pushkin celebrations are held here, famous people lay flowers to it, thematic events are held.
