Petrovsky Gate Tower
mira street, Pechora, Pechora district, Pskov region, Russia
Description:
Petrovsky Gate Tower is a structure that is located above the Holy Gate near the Pskov-Pechersk Holy Dormition Monastery. It is located in the city of Pskov, or rather in the Pechora district on Mira Street. You can get to this attraction with your own car, as well as city transport.
The tower was built in 1699. It is named in honor of Peter I, who previously visited here. It has a three-tiered structure, which consists of a supporting part, a loggia and a dome with a cross. Made in the Baroque style, it was reconstructed only in 1923. In the central part of the building there is an icon, which was installed for the amulet.
Initially, the gate tower served as a repository of various church equipment. After some time, it was changed into a defensive design, which is connected to the gates of the monastery into one whole.
