The Utroya River

Pitalovsky district, Pskov region

Description:

In Russia, the river is called Utroya. In Latvia, it was called Ritupe, but at the same time I also know it as Udraya, which translates from Latvian “river otters”.

The river originates in Latvia from Lake Meyranu. It passes through the Latvian city of Karsava. In Russia, Utroya captures the Pitalovsky district, in the Pskov region. The reservoir passes almost two kilometers from the center of a small town. There it has a width of about 20 meters.

The river itself is very ornate. Its shores are not rich in vegetation, but on the contrary, in some parts it is even swampy.

The largest tributary of the Utroi is considered the Lie River. At the place where it joins, the width of the river increases to 40 meters. There are three tributaries in total.
