About the company:
Pskov United Museum-Reserve is one of the oldest museums in Russia. It was opened in 1876 by local historians. Even during the difficult years of revolution and war, the museum did not close its doors to visitors.
The main exposition of the first floor of the museum is dedicated to the culture and art of ancient Pskov. The best exhibits were transferred for some time from the famous chambers of the XVII century, once belonged to the successful merchant and major official Sergei Ivanovich Pogankin. Nine rooms that told about the thousand-year history of the Pskov land, its crafts, trade, wars, culture and art of the Pskovites are now presented in three halls. The exhibition exhibits icon painting of the Pskov school, artistic silver, Neolithic archaeology, dishes, lamps and other things that clearly demonstrate the diversity of life of the ancient inhabitants of the Pskov region.
The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the history of the Pskov region from 1941 to 1945. The period of the Great Patriotic War in the history of Pskov and Pskov land is one of the most tragic and heroic pages. Most of the exhibits are genuine items of the war: Russian and German weapons, documents and money of the occupation period, the history of partisans and “people’s avengers”, the operating cart “Bad”, the diorama “Forcing the Great River on July 23, 1944”.
