Polybinsk Memorial Museum-Estate of S.V. Kovalevskaya

The Polybinsk Museum is the only museum in Russia dedicated to this woman mathematician.

The memorial museum-estate of S.V. Kovalevskaya is located in the former estate of her father Vasily Vasilyevich Korvin-Krukovsky. In the estate to this day there is a house built in the middle of the XIX century (presumably) according to the project of the outstanding Russian artist-architect A.P. Bryullov (737 sq. m), a wing and a park. Sofia Vasilievna lived here from 8 to 18 years.

Currently, the exhibition of the museum dedicated to the life and work of S.V. Kovalevskaya is located in the memorial wing in one room with an area of only 55 square meters. m, as the main manor house is closed for restoration. The exposition contains personal belongings of the mathematician, representing Kovalevskaya not only as a scientist, but also as a writer and just a woman.

Among the memorial items are books from a personal library, authentic handwritten documents (record books, a manuscript of the novel “Nihilista”), her shoes, a sweatshirt, a purse, a mirror, portraits of ancestors. In addition, here in the wing in another room there is an exhibition from the funds of the Museum “Noble fashion of the XIX century”. In addition to authentic colored lithographs depicting fashionable outfits, various ladies' things are exhibited: theater binoculars, purses, nail file, hair clips, floor vases, etc.
