Description:
The museum is special. It was established and opened at the request, order and with the participation of the citizens themselves, with the help of the Head of the city and the head of the department for culture, sports and youth affairs of the city. All the exhibited material, and it is quite diverse in content, was provided by our fellow citizens.

The Pushchin Museum of Ecology and Local History is a reflection of the life of the city. Here, like pearl clothed with a grain of sand, people collect and preserve the grains of history. To save the past, to show how it manifests itself in the present and is transferred to the future – the task, of course, is not only our museum and it is also solved traditionally with the help of available means – it is diverse exhibitions, seminars, remembrance evenings. Over the past two years, 32 such events have been held.

This museum is the only one in the Moscow region.

Founder: Afanaskin A.V. (1948) - Head of the city of Pushchino

Local attractions:
The city created the first experimental Cryobank in the country, in which at ultra-low temperatures (-196 degrees). (C) the genetic material (reproductive cells) of various plants and animals, including those now rare, are kept in a viable state. Cryobank collections are constantly replenished. In his laboratory, you can see flowers grown by complex manipulations from the seeds of plants that lived in the mouth of the Kolyma River in prehistoric times and lay in the “permafrost” for more than 30 thousand years. Part of this unique collection is stored in our museum, and they were brought from the north by the staff of the Institute of Physical, Chemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science.

From the opposite left bank of the Oka River, our wonderful neighbors look at the young city - the inhabitants of the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve, which makes up a single ecopolis with the city. The world-famous reserve was established in 1945, and in 1979 it was included in the register of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO. It is distinguished by a rich flora containing about 900 species of plants, in a variety related to taiga, boron, oak and steppe species. In the reserve grows a large number of endangered, protected species of plants, such as: mavel, steppe cherry, Russian grouse, Bieberstein tulip, forget-me-not, etc. On its territory there are more than 50 species of animals and 130 species of birds, among which the largest in our region is the deaf and the smallest is the king. Work is underway here to restore rare species of animals listed in the Red Book, such as bison. Since 1948, there is a bison nursery in the reserve.

Near the city is Pushchinskaya estate, located on the picturesque coastal slope of the Oka River. The estate, in which director N.S. Mikhalkov in 1974 shot his film “Unfinished Play for Mechanical Piano” and fragments of the film “Several Days in the Life of Oblomov”, is in a rather neglected state. There was a lot of life here. At different times, the estate was owned by the famous historian of Catherine’s times Y.I. Artsybashev, a tea merchant S.V. Perlov, the owner of weaving factories and textile production N.T. Kashtanov. In the estate there were a famous scientist-encyclopedist, agronomist A.T. Bolotov and composer A.A. Alyabyev, who later became the wife of the widow of one of the owners of the estate A.P. Ofrosimov, sculptor S.T. Konenkov. After the revolution, a hospital with a maternity hospital was located in the manor house. And with the opening of a new hospital building in the city, life in the estate died out, the manor house gradually deteriorates. There is only hope that the estate will be revived and restored. So far, the museum has only an exposition telling about this page of life of our region.

Gone to the distant history and those times when on the territory where our city is now located, the militant tribes of Vyatichi lived. Near the town of Pushchino are the remains of the ancient (XII-XIV centuries) guard fortress of Teshilov. The fortress once defended the southern borders of the Moscow principalities. But with the appearance of Mr. Serpukhov, which, unlike Teshilov, was already built of stone, and was more fortified and protected, the fortress lost its strategic importance, gradually fell into decline, and now only an earthen rampart remains of it. It looks good from the beautiful Oka. The museum exhibits a model of Teshilov settlement, recreated according to historical chronicles by the hands of children from the Children's Ecological Station.
