Individual excursion to Tsarskoye Selo (Pushkin) from St. Petersburg
Description:
I invite you to an individual tour of Tsarskoe Selo! This suburb of St. Petersburg is famous for the magnificent Catherine Palace with the Amber Room and the chic Catherine Park. The imperial country residence is included in the mandatory program of the first visit to the northern capital.
The road to Tsarskoye Selo from the city center most often passes along Moscow Avenue, which usually stays away from sightseeing tours. But this government highway itself deserves special attention. It is interesting for its complex development in the "Stalin" style. Here we will see the triumphal Moscow Gate, a memorial complex on Victory Square. Further, the route passes past the Pulkovo Heights towards Tsarskoye Selo. I will gladly tell you all about it on the way.
In Tsarskoye Selo itself, attention will be drawn to the Egyptian Gate, the Alexander Palace, the Lyceum Garden with a monument to Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.
In the Catherine Palace you will have a tour of the ceremonial interiors with a mandatory visit to the famous Amber Room. It lasts one hour.
Then I'll show you Catherine Park. It is interesting because it has both a regular “French” part and a landscape, in the “English” style. In the park there are pavilions that will remind of the daughter of Peter I, Empress Elizabeth, Catherine the Great, Alexander I and subsequent emperors. Almost each of the Russian autocrats left his mark in Tsarskoe. But above all, of course, Catherine II.
The masterpieces of the Catherine Park were created by such architects as Francesco Rastrelli, Charles Cameron, Vasily Neelov, Luigi Ruska. The vicissitudes of the fate of these architects also affected the appearance of local buildings.
In the regular part of the park there is an original sculpture of the XVIII century, the pavilions Upper and Lower Bath, the Hermitage. On the border with the landscape part of the park we will look at the Grotto. From here there is a beautiful view of the Big Pond and the concert hall on the island in the center of the pond, the Admiralty, the Turkish Bath, the Chesme column. Next, our way will pass by the “girl with a jug” to the Marble Bridge. From him to the granite terrace, the Cameron Gallery and its own garden. So we will bypass the Catherine Palace and again find ourselves at the Lyceum Garden.
During the walk you will see the amazing decorativeness of the Catherine Park. The genius of the people who created it. There are many places where picturesque photos are taken. No wonder Catherine Park is popular among newlyweds and lovers of photo shoots in nature. Its beauty in spring and summer is revealed thanks to the huge number of flower beds. In autumn – a multifaceted palette of falling foliage. In winter, the park is strict and graphic.
At the exit from the park, we will not miss the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum. Let’s talk about this unique educational institution, about its students. Among them was the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin.
Acquaintance with Tsarskoye Selo can be continued with a visit to the Lyceum, the Alexander Palace and the park, or a trip to the nearby Pavlovsk Park. In this case, we will have lunch at one of the local restaurants, and then go to the next facility. This will increase the tour time by 3-4 hours.
