The Girl with the Jug Fountain
Description:
The fountain "Girl with a jug" (original name - the fountain "Molochnitsa") is the only sculpture specially made for the Catherine Park.
The statue is made by the famous sculptor P.P. Sokolov on the plot of Lafontaine’s fable “Milkbird, or a jug with milk” and cast in bronze in the workshop of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, before the capture of the town by the Nazis, the statue of Molochnitsa was buried in the ground - thanks to this, the fountain was not damaged. Now the bronze original "Girls with a jug" (the author's plaster model of which is stored in the State Russian Museum) is placed in the funds of the museum-reserve, and a copy is installed in the park, cast in 1990.
