Monument to Pushkin in the Lyceum Garden

Lyceum Garden, Pushkin, suburb of St. Petersburg, Russia

Description:

Lyceum garden is called a small square in the suburbs of St. Petersburg - Pushkin. Its undoubted center is a monument to the great Russian poet by R.R. Bach. The sculpture appeared in the garden in October 1900. The sketch of the monument was approved by Emperor Nicholas II himself.

Bronze Pushkin in the lyceum uniform is thoughtfully sitting on the bench. His posture is natural, his appearance is charming. The obvious artistic merits of this monument are one of the best proofs of the reverent and tender love of the Russian people for Alexander Sergeyevich. The monument is surrounded by a touching flower garden, and on the granite pedestal there is a poetic verse dedicated to Tsarskoye Selo (now Pushkin).

The value of the monument is evidenced by the fact that it was specially interested in the Germans during the Second World War. But the sculpture was safely hidden, and it was preserved.
