House-Museum of P.P. Chistyakov

st. Petersburg, Pushkin, Moskovsky Sh., 23

About the company:

Pavel Petrovich Chistyakov House-Museum, a department of the Research Museum at the Russian Academy of Arts, was opened on April 26, 1987. This is a unique object in the excursion route of the city of Pushkin.

Historical painter and portrait painter, professor of the Imperial Academy of Arts Pavel Chistyakov entered the history of the Russian art school as a teacher of the largest masters of Russian culture. In different years his pupils were Repin, Polenov, Surikov, Vasnetsov, Savinsky, Serov, Vrubel, Ryabushkin, Borisov-Musatov and many others.

The artist’s cottage is a monument of wooden architecture of the second half of the XIX century. Construction began in June 1876 under the project of architect Alexander Kolb with the active participation of the customer. Decorative carving of interiors is made according to the drawings of Chistyakov himself and his wife Vera Egorovna (born Meyer). The elegant appearance of the country gives a decorative carving of casings, cornices, original weather vane in the form of fabulous cockerels. By the beginning of the summer season of 1877, the construction of the cottage was completed.

More than 40 years of Chistyakov’s creative life are connected with Tsarsky Selo, with his own house, in which the world of an artist – a teacher, a creator, a philosopher, a worker – is resurrected. Pavel Petrovich Chistyakov died in this house on November 11, 1919, buried in the Kazan cemetery. This is reminiscent of the memorial plaque installed in 1929.

Existing within these walls, the museum allows you to make a trip to the amazing world and revive some pages of the forgotten past of the “city of muses”.
