Pushkinskaya Street, 1, Pushkin Mountains, Pushkinogorsky District, Pskov Region, Russia, 181370
Description:
The Assumption Monastery is surrounded by an ancient fence of stone. The Holy and Anastasiastic Gates lead to it. Near the first is the viceroy’s house, built in 1911. Two stone stairs lead directly to the Assumption Cathedral. To the ancient Assumption Church in the XVIII century, two chapels were added - Pokrovsky and Odigitrievsky.
The last earthly shelter of Pushkin was the Svyatogorsk monastery. In February 1837, after the repose service, in the southern wing of the Assumption Cathedral, which was served by Archimandrite Gennady, the body of the poet was interred at the altar wall.
The Assumption Cathedral was restored in 1949. An exposition dedicated to the great history of the temple, as well as the work of A. S. Pushkin, his duel, death and funeral was opened here. In 1992, the Holy Dormition Svyatogorsk Monastery was devoted to the indefinite use of the Russian Orthodox Church. Visit it and honor the memory of the great Russian poet!
