Mount Sulakhat
Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia 5.0 km
Description:
Mount Sulakhat is located on the territory of the Kabardino-Balkar Republic, 10 km from the village of Dombay, is part of the mountainous territory of the North Caucasus.
According to ancient legend, the Alans lived in this area. Lived well, in abundance. But once they were overtaken by strong winds that did not allow the harvest to ripen, livestock died out. Then the daughter of the head of the tribe Sulakhat decided to save her people: went to the top of the mountain and lay on the crest, thus deciding to protect the Alibek valley from the winds. She appeased the mountain spirits, but she petrified herself. And now, if you look closely, then in the outlines of the mountain range you can see the silhouette of a sleeping woman. So the mountain range began to bear the name of Sulakhat. The people mourned the girl for a long time, from their tears formed the rivers Alibek and Amanauz, from which the river Teberda originated.
