Excursions to the waterfalls of Karelia

1 day:

07:00 – Group meeting at St. Petersburg, Ligovsky Prospect 10

. 7:30 - Departure.

08:00 – Stop at the metro station Ozerki (5 min.)

10:30 - Priozersk. Korel's fortress.

Here our bus will make a small stop so that you can explore the fortress and relax from the bus. Korela is unique in that it is a sample of Swedish fortifications, which by the will of fate were on Russian territory.

13:30 - City of Sortavala.

14:00 Lunch (paid locally if desired).

15:00 – Stop at the Ruskeal waterfalls “Akhvenkoski”.

The waterfalls are located on the Tohmayoki River.

16:00 - Excursion to the mountain park "Ruskeala".

A full tour of the mountain park with a local guide, included in the tour price, reveals many interesting facts about Ruskeala as a mining historical territory.

Art illumination that illuminates the rugged rocks of the Marble Canyon in the dark will not leave you indifferent.

Many people come to Ruskeala in winter just for this fantastic spectacle.

Free time, which will remain in abundance after the tour, can be used at your request.

20:30 Arrival at Sortavala. Hotel accommodation.

Dinner and rest.

After the excursion program, the bus will take all tourists to hotels. There is usually a cafe at every hotel.

Also, our guide will tell you where you can have dinner in the evening, if the cafe in the hotel for some reason will not suit you.

 

Day 2:

08:00 - Breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer from the hotel to the beginning of the excursion to the waterfalls.

09:00 - Trip to the forest waterfalls.

11:00 – Expedition to the forest waterfalls of Karelia by bus.

Koirinoy waterfalls on the river of the same name. The first waterfall is "mill."

A man-made threshold about 5 meters high was once used for a water mill. Later, a small hydroelectric power station worked here, and now just a picturesque place.

The second waterfall is of natural origin. The granite rock forming the threshold creates a waterfall about 4 meters high. The riverbed here is very narrow, the water comes to the threshold with a very high speed and as it were shot from a height.

Waterfalls "White Bridges" - the nail of any excursion to the waterfalls. It is located in the depths of the forest is considered one of the highest in Karelia.

13:00 – Visit the deposit of semi-precious stone Granat.

In the same area where the forest waterfalls are located, you will have the opportunity to visit the old mine where the semi-precious stone “garnet” was once mined. Beautiful, but not jewelry quality, stones are still very much. In fact, you don't even have to look for them. It is enough just to take a piece and take it with you to remember the beautiful Karelia.

The accompanying group will tell the place and help with the extraction of the stone.

After you get your own piece of pomegranate, you will receive a return transfer to Sortavala, where you will join the main group.

15:00 – Lunch in Sortavala.

16:00 – Sightseeing tour of the city of Sortavala.

You will get acquainted with the Sortavala architecture, which is called the “encyclopedia of northern modernity”.

The highest point - Mount Kuhavuori, is an observation deck, which opens the panorama of the city and Lake Ladoga.

The climb may be cancelled due to unsafe weather conditions.

17:30 - Museum of wood carving by the artist Kronid.

Tickets are purchased at will on the spot.

19:00 – Visit to the trout store. (Ozerki metro and then subway Rebellion Square)
