Rostov State Musical Theatre
About the company:
In September 1999, a truly significant event took place in our city: the Rostov Theater of Musical Comedy moved to a new building with a total area of 27 thousand square meters and a stage platform, which today is inferior in its technical parameters and the size of a stage mirror only to the Bolshoi Theater. The history of the construction of this building goes back several decades. The creators of the grandiose building at that time were young architects L. Lobak, G. Dukov, V. Hafizov. They faced a difficult task: to create a memorable silhouette of the building, which would personify musical art. This symbol they chose a piano with an open lid (which served as the graphic logo of the musical comedy theater on its posters and in programs). Having passed a difficult road of construction, the theater opened its doors in 1999 thanks to the close attention, care and support of the Administration of the region and its governor. But the epicenter of the cultural life of the Southern Federal District, the theater became not only due to the “white marble miracle”. From the moment of moving to a magnificent new building, a period of significant changes began in it: the theater acquired a new status of music - opera and ballet companies were created in it. Currently, the theater presents various performances in the genres of opera, ballet, operetta and musical. A large, diverse repertoire requires significant creative strength. In recent years, the team of performers has increased. Today, the vocal troupe has more than 60 soloists, the ballet - more than 60 artists, the choir - more than 50 artists, the orchestra includes more than 100 instrumentalists. Major masters of domestic and world theater art successfully cooperate with the theater, including directors: Honored Artist of Russia Yuri Alexandrov, Susanna Tsiriuk, Honored Artist of Russia Georgy Isahakyan, People's Artists of Russia Yuri Laptev and Kirill Strezhnev; conductors: Andrei Galanov, Honored Artist of Russia Alexander Anisimov, Maurizio Dones (Italy), Marcello Motttadelli (Italy), Robert Lyall (USA); artists: Yuri Cooper, Ernst Heidebrecht, Kirill Strezhnev; conductors: Andrei Galanov, Honored Artist of Russia, Marchey V. It is noteworthy that the theater has an extensive touring geography. Over the past five years, the troupe has toured in Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Great Britain, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar. Today, the Rostov State Musical Theatre can rightfully be considered one of the strongest theater groups in the country. The successful performance of the team at the XI National Theatre Festival “Golden Mask” in 2005, where the performance of the Rostov Theatre “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensky District” was awarded the title of Festival Laureate in two nominations, the constant sold-outs with which Rostov’s performances take place at Russian and foreign stage venues, high marks of music, theater critics and journalists – all this is convincing proof that the Rostov region has held and is successfully developing a unique phenomenon in today’s music world – the Rostov State Musical Theatre.
