Rostov State Puppet Theatre

Rostov State Puppet Theater is one of the oldest in the country. His story begins with a group of puppeteers who began working for children in the 20s of the last century. Moreover, puppeteers, including M. Kushnarenko, N. Smirnova, A. Dora and others, worked so successfully, inspired and talented that the Azov-Black Sea region of the Komsomol decided to create a puppet theater. It first opened its doors to the public in 1935. On his performances, several generations of residents of the Don region grew up. As adults, they bring their children and grandchildren to the theater of their childhood. At different times, the theater was led by famous directors: Boris Sakhnovsky – a student of K.S. Stanislavsky, Leonid Stelmakhovich – a student of V.E. Meyerhold. For more than 35 years, the artistic management was headed by a student of S.V.Obraztsov – Vladimir Bylkov. The history of the theater remembers all the wonderful artists who stood at the origins of its opening, among them: “Honored Artist of Russia” S. Isayeva, M. Kushnarenko (son – “Honored Artist of Russia” I. Kushnarenko and granddaughter Elena successfully continue to serve Melpomene), S. Ulybashev, L. Chubkov, G. Pidko, A. Derkach and many others. Each performance of the theater is a moral lesson. The theater conducts an adult conversation with young spectators about eternal life values, setting the work of the child’s soul. On the basis of these principles, the repertory policy of the theater is built. Many creative personalities working in the theater were awarded with Honorary Badges "For achievements in culture" of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, diplomas and gratitude of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Governor of the Rostov Region, the Ministry of Culture of the Rostov Region and the RO STD of the Russian Federation, special prizes of seminars of theater journalists. The theater visited Moscow three times with creative reports and tours in 1953, 1985, 1998, where it received high praise for its performances of theatrical criticism, the public, genuine interest of the media and a warm welcome of the audience. Moreover, the “patriarch” of Russian puppeteers – S.V.Obraztsov highly appreciated the work of the original, promising and unique troupe of the Rostov State Puppet Theater. And now talented creators work in the theater: the artistic director - Andrei Bylkov-Krat, the main artist - Elena Panina, the production artist - Irina Litus, the composer-arranger - Alexei Vyazinkin, Honored Artists of Russia - Lyubov Sadekova, Nadezhda Vasilyeva, Igor Kushnarenko, Alexander Mozgunov, Evgeny Shevtsov - and young artists - graduates of the Rostov branch of the St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts - Elena Kushnarenko (Governored Artsmanate of the Governor's Prize in the field of theatrical Arts, Mikhail Lapocentov, 2001). As well as current students: Alexander Boyko, Elena Gracheva, Svetlana Mityushina, Elena Zaretskaya, Ekaterina Ryabtseva, Olga Chereneva, Tatiana Kuzmina learn the “secrets” of the puppet theater from the artistic director, associate professor A. Bylkov-Krat in the Rostov branch of the St. Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts. Famous composers such as Georgy Balayev, Vitaly Khodash, Anatoly Kusyakov, Alexander Bakshi, Mikhail Fuchsman, Yuri Vesnyak, poet Nikolai Skrebov, writers M. Sholokhov, Peter Lebedenko collaborated with the theater.
