Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God
Russia, Rostov-on-Don, 113b Big Sadovaya Street.
Description:
The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Mother of God opened its doors to the first parishioners on September 29, 1784. Initially, the temple was small in size and was intended only for the military who lived in the fortress of St. Demetrius of Rostov.
A century later, it was decided to build a more spacious temple on a new site. The church was built in the early XX century by the architect G.N. Vasiliev in the style of neoclassicism.
In the Soviet years, the church was completely destroyed, and a monument to Kirov was erected in its place, which stood there until 2006, when it was decided to build a new church. Construction began in 2007 with the solemn installation of the dome, covering which was used almost a kilogram of pure gold. The church itself is a monolithic single-domed building decorated on the facade with a mosaic canvas depicting the Savior.
