The Botanical Garden of Southern Federal University is the first facility of this kind in southern Russia. It was created on the treeless expanses of the Rostov Black Earth in 1927.
Today it is one of the largest natural and cultural centers of the country. The flora of the Botanical Garden exceeds 5,000 trees, shrubs and grasses. In a special greenhouse grown more than 1500 plants from all continents of the planet. The area of the garden is 160 hectares of land with a diverse relief, soil and vegetation.
On the territory of the garden there is a mineral spring of healing water, which is a monument of nature and an Orthodox shrine named in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov.
