Lake Manych-Gudilo
Description:
Lake Manych-Gudilo is located on the territory of the Rostov State Reserve, and on the banks borders with Kalmykia and the Stavropol Territory. The water in the lake is salty, and the salt content in it can compete with the Black Sea itself.
High salinity does not give full force to develop vegetation, traditionally reed thickets are found in places with more fresh water in beams and on the side of the dam.
The lake is the nesting place of many birds: white-headed and gray goose, gazard, pickle, gull, pelican, heron and many others. There are a lot of fish in the lake, which come to catch from all the nearby surroundings and neighboring edges and regions.
An amazing place on the lake is the island of Water, where a herd of wild horses lives, according to legend, left there to protect the treasures of Batu Khan.
In early spring, on the Tulipania peninsula of Lake Manych-Gudilo, a living carpet woven from wild tulips of various colors and shades blooms. They say that for their bulbs in the XVII century came breeders from Europe.
