Monument to A.P. Chekhov (Rostov-on-Don)
Intersection of Pushkinskaya Street and Chekhov Avenue
Description:
The monument to Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, a native of Taganrog, which is nearby, was erected for his 150th anniversary in January 2010. The monument is located at the intersection of Pushkinskaya and Chekhov streets.
There are two places in the city associated with the writer. This is the house of Maksimov, where once there was a shop in which the writer’s father, Pavel Egorovich, served as a clerk. In Rostov-on-Don, he met his future wife, Eugene Yakovlevna Morozova. Chekhov himself once stayed at the house of his gymnasium friend, at the intersection of Stanislavsky and Newspaper. The monument is installed on one of the main alleys of the city at the intersection with the corresponding street.
The figure is 2.5 meters high made of bronze and was made in less than a month. According to the author’s idea, the writer holds a book in his hands and relies on a parapet, looking at passers-by.
Anatoly Sknarin, the creator of the monument, believes that Chekhov is the ideal of a man because he is beautiful, intelligent and ironic. Sknarin's works are one of the visiting cards of Rostov-on-Don, among them - "Rostovchanka", "Tachanka", a monument to the heroes of the Rostov strike of 1902, etc.
