Monument to the 1902 Strike “Continuity of Generations”

p. Strikes of 1902, Rostov-on-Don, Rostov region, Russian Federation

Description:

The monument to the strike of 1902 is a memorial to the dead participants of the strike of 1902, installed at the entrance to the Railway District of Rostov.

The composition of the monument, the work of the sculptor A. A. Snarin, represents the figures of two workers of the workshops of the Vladikavkaz railway, who died when the authorities shot the rally. One of them falls from his feet and holds one hand behind a huge anvil – a sign of the blacksmiths’ performance in the strike. The second worker rushes into battle, holding a piece of torn red banner.

The monument to the strike of 1902 is in fact a vivid example of the Soviet-Communist epic about the difficult time when the proletariat first began to defend its rights and freedoms. The composition of the monument is designed to engender an anxious and patriotic attitude among the audience and educate them in the spirit of the Soviet ideology of class struggle. The monument to the strike of 1902 is a vivid symbol of the Soviet era.

The monument is installed on a large platform, which offers a beautiful view of Rostov.
