Description:
Green Island is the island of the Don River, in its lower reaches. Territorially, the island belongs to the Proletarian district of Rostov-on-Don. The vegetation and relief of the island completely repeats that of the “mainland”, and is represented by meadow grasses, and from trees, ash and poplar are mainly found.
The 29th line of the city rests on the pontoon bridge, moving along which on foot or by car, you can get to the Green Island. However, the bridge works only from April to November, in winter you can only get to the island by boat.
Local old-timers claim that there used to be a village on the island, but in the late 60s of the last century all its residents were relocated to the city. You can still find ruins of old houses on the river island.
Today, there are many recreation centers on the Green Island, in the summer city residents like to spend hot days here, arranging fun picnics and swimming in the Don.
