Rudnyan Historical Museum

About the company:

The town of Rudnya is 68 km north-west of Smolensk. In the past, this village arose on the site of ore (iron) fishing. The first mention of it dates back to 1363. The status of the city Rudnya received in 1926.

15 km from Rudni is the village of Lubavichi, where in the first half of the XIX century the center of the Jewish religious movement of Hasidism appeared. Today, Hasidic Jews from all over the world come to Lubavitski – they consider these places holy.

In the village of Yermoshenki, Rudnyansky district, Mikhail Egorov was born, who hoisted the Banner of Victory over the Reichstag together with Meliton Kantaria on April 30, 1945. A memorial museum of the Honorary Citizen of Smolensk and Berlin M.A. Egorov was created in Rudna.

Interesting to visit the Rudnyansky Historical Museum. It opened in 1980. Its permanent exposition consists of 4 halls: “Peasant Life”, “The Establishment and Strengthening of Soviet Power in the Rudnyansky District”, “Ore during the Great Patriotic War” and “Victory Banner” (about the Hero of the Soviet Union M.A. Egorov).
