Kazan convent
Description:
In 2006, at the request of Archbishop Paul of Ryazan and Kasimov, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church blessed the revival of the monastic life of the Kazan convent in the city of Ryazan.
The monastery occupied the estate of the merchant Ipatiev near the Ascension Church. This church, built by Ipatiev, at the request of Archbishop Simon, was given to the ownership of the Kazan monastery and became a monastery church. The building of the Kazan Church was built at the end of the 17th century by Metropolitan Abraham of Ryazan.
Since 1861, the monastery operated a hospital, and since 1868 opened a four-class school with free meals for 60 girls from poor families, built and maintained at the expense of the merchant Sergey Afanasyevich Zhivago.
