Lenin Square

Lenin Square, Ryazan, Russia

Description:

Lenin Square is the central square of the city of Ryazan, the administrative center of the Ryazan region of Russia. This is a kind of the heart of the city - from it, like living arteries, several streets and Pervomaysky Prospekt originate.

The square previously had the names Moscow, Astrakhan, Lipetsk, Bread or Novobazarnaya. It was located in the most ancient part of the city, where the main trade in grain brought along the Oke River took place. In the first quarter of the XIX century on the perimeter of the square lined the Trading rows, richly decorated in the style of classicism, some of which have survived to our time. Two-storey historical buildings are typical for merchant streets. At the end of the XIX century on the square built a chapel, and around it a lot of wooden shops. The square received its modern name in 1924, and later a monument to the leader of the proletariat was erected here. Since then, there has been a tradition to hold festive demonstrations at the monument and celebrate various festive events in the life of the city.

Lenin Square is a favorite place of Ryazan residents. There are appointments and most meetings. From different sides the spacious square is surrounded by shady squares. The appearance of today’s Lenin Square was created by several generations of residents of Ryazan.
