The Transfiguration Cathedral
Description:
The Transfiguration Cathedral is located in the eponymous monastery on the territory of the Ryazan Kremlin. It was built in 1702 by Mikhail Fedorovich Nemchinov under the abbot of the monastery Archimandrite Leo. A tall square temple with an altar semicircle has one dome topped with a cross.
After the revolution, the temple was closed and for many years was given to a warehouse of all church utensils and icons.
And only in 1962 the building of the temple was transferred to the State Archives of the Ryazan region and turned into an archive. For many years from the former decoration of the cathedral there was not a trace, and its appearance did not cause joy. In this form, in 2007, the Transfiguration Church was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. It took a lot of time and effort to bring the cathedral to its proper appearance.
On Palm Sunday, April 12, 2009, Archbishop Paul of Ryazan and Kasimov made the Great Consecration and the renewed Transfiguration Cathedral again opened its doors for all believers and those wishing to visit this ancient shrine. From this day on, Divine services are again performed daily in the Transfiguration Cathedral.
