Rzhev Museum of Local Lore

The museum was founded in 1916. as a natural history museum. In 1917 the Historical and Archaeological Museum was established. In 1925, the two museums were merged. The new museum was given the building of the city government. During the Second World War. The museum was completely destroyed and all the collections were destroyed. In 1956 the museum was created again. In 1998, an updated exposition “Rzhev 1941-1945” was created.

At the moment, the museum exhibits items of ethnography, a collection of spinning wheels of the Rzhev type, ceramics of the Santalov pottery, objects from the battlefields.

On May 3, 2005, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Victory, the museum opened the exposition “Battle of Rzhev 1942-1943”, an integral part of which is the diorama “The Battle for Rzhev on September 24, 1944”.
