Salsk City Art Gallery named after V.K. Nechitailo

On October 13, by the decision of the Secretariat of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, the collection of modern fine art was transferred to Salsk. It consisted of 72 paintings, 26 graphics and 47 sculptures. The transfer of works of fine art occurred in connection with the opening of an art gallery in our city. In the formation of the first collection, our countryman, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Vasily Kirillovich Nechitailo, showed active support and personal participation. The collection formed in this way became the beginning of the Salsk Art Gallery’s own funds, and its exhibits – the basis of the permanent exhibition. The first collection presents works of folk artists of the USSR: V.P. Efanov, B.S. Ugarov, O.K. Komov, folk artists of the RSFSR: V.K. Nechitailo, V.G. Tsyplakov, P.P. Ossovsky, D.K. Mochalsky, V.A. Vatagin, honored artists of the Russian Federation: M.I. Savchenkova, A.G. Lysenko, V.S. Sorokin, Yu.I. Skorikova, etc. The presence of an art gallery with a good collection of works in our steppe city, remote 200 km from the regional center, is a pleasant surprise for guests of the city, and the residents of Salsky and nearby areas - the center of artistic life. The great interest of visitors is caused by exhibitions of Don artists, traditional autumn exhibitions "Our steppe region". The villagers remembered traveling exhibitions of works by N.K. Roerich, D.K. Sveshnikov, E.I. Vostokova, B.V. Shcherbakov, V.K. Nechitailo, M.V. Savchenkova and many others. Salsky Art Gallery is the only state museum in the southeast of the Rostov region. Modern fine art, which stands on the foundations of the Russian academic school attracts with its clarity of forms and plots. The period of socialist realism is clearly represented.
