Blue Lake
Samara region, Sergiev district
Description:
Blue Lake can be seen in the Sergievsky district of the Samara region, near the village of Staroe Yakushkino. The reservoir of round shape is located in a karst funnel. The area of the lake is about 300 square meters, the maximum depth is about 23 meters. All year round, the water temperature in the lake remains unchanged - about + 8 degrees Celsius. The lake is characterized by extraordinary transparency and bright blue color of the water.
This is due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide sources at the bottom of the lake: they provide a blue color of water and thanks to them there are practically no living organisms in the water, which contributes to the transparency of the lake. The only species of algae that live in the lake is char algae, at the bottom of the reservoir they form underwater meadows. The shores of the lake are covered with grassy vegetation, there is such a species of perennial aquatic plants as water pine.
Many ancient legends are associated with the lake. Locals believe that swimming in the lake can heal both the soul and body. Many of them believe that the lake is bottomless.
