Sergiev State Historical and Local Lore Museum

Samara region., Sergievsky district., S. Sergievsk, str. Soviet, 45

About the company:

The building, in which the local history museum is located, was built in the middle of the XIX century by the merchant Smirnov. In one wing he lived with his family, in the other was his trading room. They say that during the years of Soviet power, the merchant was arrested, but with the help of security managed to escape and settled in Siberia. After his death, somewhere in the 70s, the son of Smirnov came to Sergievsk to worship his native land and his home. In the early 20s, the former house of the merchant Smirnov became a people’s house, where meetings were held, various public events were held.

“To be a museum!” – under this motto in the regional newspaper “Rural tribune” erupted heated controversy after the transfer of the state Bank in a new building. Some asked to give the old building for a prayer house, others - for a district library and, finally, the third, and there were much more of them - for a museum of local lore. The opening of the local history museum was timed to the 290th anniversary of Sergievsk. It took place on June 19, 1993.

Today, the Sergiev Museum of Local History is not only exhibits, exhibitions, expositions, but it is a center of patriotic education. Each excursion, each event is, first of all, instilling love for your small homeland, cultivating a sense of beauty, love for the world around you, pride in those people whose work all this was created.
