Kamennoostrovsky theatre

Russia, St. Petersburg, Krestovka River embankment, 10, lit. Ah.

About the company:

The Kamennoostrovsky Theatre was built in 1827 in St. Petersburg under the project of architect S. L. Shustov, in our time it is a unique monument of wooden architecture of the classical era. The reason for the construction of the Kamennoostrovsky Theater was the closure of the Bolshoi Theater on the Theater Square for repairs, which to our time has not survived.

For a unique appearance, it was planned to decorate the main facade of the theater with an eight-column Corinthian portico. The tympan of the triangular pediment is decorated with a wooden relief depicting the main attributes of theatrical art - masks, lyres, musical instruments and a tirsa. Unfortunately, the statues "Apollo with Pan" and "Castor and Pollux" were lost during the 1917 revolution. The theater could accommodate 750 spectators, and the size of the stage allowed to stage performances of any direction.
