Theater of Satire on Vasilievsk

Theatre Address: St. Petersburg, Sredny Pr., 48

About the company:

In 1989, on the wave of theater-studios that appeared almost every day, the rock-theater studio “Secret” was born. All his actors left professional theaters to devote themselves to a new living business. Back then, the corpse had nothing but the desire to play plays and build its own theater. The first production of the young team was “eternal anecdote in the French and Russian way” “Love three” by vaudevilles M. Berquier-Marinier and A. Kurbsky (which goes so far). Soon there were other performances, the theater began to live. But without a home in Leningrad, he had to live on wheels: in Siberia, Ukraine, the Volga region, Estonia, even in Finland. Soon the theater became known as the Leningrad Experimental Theater of Satire. Three years of being homeless did not destroy the original desire to work together. And in 1992, the theater was noticed and supported by the regional authorities, who still pay close attention to it. Simultaneously with the status of the state theater, finally found its own home - on Sredny Prospekt, 48. The building, which now houses the Theatre of Satire, was built at the very outset of the XIX century at the expense and on the initiative of a certain Mrs. von Derviz, the owner of an apartment house on Sredny Prospekt. The attached wing was designed for chamber concerts and small home performances for the educated public of the German settlement, located on Vasilievsky Island. In the 20-30s of the XX century, the regional youth theater worked here for a short time, at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War - the Leningrad Operetta Theater. In the postwar years, the building, which has a remarkable theatrical tradition, was turned into a cinema - a club of the Uritsky Tobacco Factory. The building was dilapidated, from the former grace of the Art Nouveau style there was not a trace left. The first performance of the Theater of Satire was “Sanine” based on the novel by M. Artsybashev. The theater gave two performances and ... closed for a year - urgent repairs were needed. Trained to live without their own playground, the actors waited patiently, while continuing to tour large and small. And finally came the day that can be called the second birthday of the Theater of Satire: on May 28, 1993, the theater opened in the restored building with the play “Marriage” staged by A. Morozov.
