Saint Petersburg

Siege of Leningrad

Description:

We invite you to go on a unique journey through the pages of one of the most tragic and at the same time heroic chapters of the history of St. Petersburg - besieged Leningrad. This excursion is not just a story about the events of the past, but a deep immersion into the inner world of people who, against all odds, retained inner strength, hope and love for life.

You will discover an amazing story about how the inhabitants of the city, despite the horrors of the blockade, found the strength not only to survive, but also to help each other. You will learn about how factories and factories continued to work in these terrible years to provide the city with food and necessary resources. The focus will be not only tragedy, but also cultural and household components: cinemas, art exhibitions, hairdressers and even a zoo. And in the winter, they celebrated the new year, covering the table with paper food.

And, of course, we will talk about the history of the creation of the famous Seventh Symphony by Dmitry Shostakovich, a work that has become a symbol of fortitude and courage. The composer began work on the symphony right in the besieged Leningrad in 1941. The premiere took place at the Philharmonic, on the radio and loudspeakers in the streets on August 9, 1942 - at the most critical moment of the defense of the city. On the very day that it was planned to completely take over the city. But he and his people held out for nearly 2.5 years.

The walk will take place through the familiar streets of the center of St. Petersburg, which during the blockade looked different: destroyed buildings, narrow streets with rare passers-by, traces of heavy years. You will learn about how people fought for their lives and culture, preserving education and spirituality even in the most difficult days and how they tried to maintain at least the appearance of a familiar life and arrangement of life. Letters, diaries, photographs and film footage reached us.

This tour is not only about tragedy, but also about the incredible thirst for life, about the inner strength of a person in the face of trials.

Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the heroic past of St. Petersburg with us – the city of memory, courage and invincible spirit!
