The royal suburbs. Gatchina

We invite you to visit one of the most interesting suburbs - Gatchina, which became the royal residence thanks to Emperor Paul I. As well as several centuries ago, the central place in the Gatchina Museum-Reserve today is occupied by the Grand Gatchina Palace, which looks like a medieval castle and invariably arouses the admiration and delight of visitors. The interiors of the palace are distinguished by the intensive use of gilding, sculpting, intricate ornaments, tapestries and draperies. One of the most favorite places for visitors is the mysterious underground passage through which you will walk with your guide, learn from the nymph Echo, who stole the clamps and defeated the French, and perhaps even meet the ghost of Paul I.

Gatchina is also famous for its complex of gardens, which consists of the Lower and Upper Dutch Gardens, as well as the fragrant Lime Garden. Interesting Gatchina Garden and its labyrinths - Water and Forest. Particularly popular among guests of the suburbs is Love Island, which is considered one of the brightest examples of a regular garden of the 18th century.
