EXCURSION TO THE TSAR VILLAGE
Description:
“Wherever fate throws us,
And happiness wherever it leads,
We are all the same: the whole world is foreign to us.
Our Fatherland is Tsarskoye Selo.
A. S. Pushkin
Tsarskoye Selo (the modern name of the city is Pushkin) is a former imperial residence, with which the fates of such Russian rulers as Elizabeth Petrovna and Catherine II, Alexander I and Alexander II are connected, as well as the fate of the last Russian monarch Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, their daughters and heir to the throne Tsarevich Alexei.
The tour begins with the road to Tsarskoye Selo from the very center of St. Petersburg. How the city on the Neva River was created and grew, how it changed over the years, where the main roads connecting it with other settlements passed - all this you will learn on the way to Tsarskoye Selo (the road will take about 50 minutes). The architecture of the XVIII-XIX centuries is gradually replaced by working quarters of the early XX century, smoothly passes into the "Stalin Empire", and architecture of the 60-70s of the XX century. Moscow Square, Moscow Victory Park, Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad, Pulkovo Heights (front line until January 1944) - all this is a separate page in the history of the city, which at that time bore the name Leningrad.
In Tsarskoye Selo, we will walk along the Catherine Park, in which the magnificent Catherine Palace is located. Catherine Park is a unique place, combining the French regular part and the English landscape park. On our way we will meet elegant park pavilions created during the XVIII-XIX centuries by famous architects of their time. These are the pavilions of the Upper and Lower Baths, the Hermitage pavilion with lifting mechanisms that have survived to this day, the Cameron Gallery with a unique view of the Hanging Garden and the Agatov Rooms, the Turkish Bath, the Palladiy Bridge, the Molochnitsa fountain, sung by A.S. Pushkin, the Grotto pavilion, the Chesma column.
A special stop deserves Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum - an elite higher educational institution of the early XIX century. Initially, Emperor Alexander I, who approved in 1810 the "Resolution on the Lyceum", intended to educate his younger brothers - Grand Dukes Nicholas and Mikhail Pavlovich (but this was opposed by Empress-Mother Maria Feodorovna). In the mind of every Russian person Lyceum in Tsarskoye Selo is inextricably linked with the name of A.S. Pushkin, who spent 6 years of his youth here.
