EXCURSION TO THE GATCHINA DOOR
Description:
Excursion to one of the largest suburban palaces, more than a hundred years belonged to the Romanov dynasty. A unique monument of Russian culture of the 18th-19th centuries. The best architects worked on it. Gatchina Palace was lucky: in its history it managed to visit both a hunting lodge, and the favorite residence of Paul 1, as well as the place of stay of his son and great-grandson. Lush holidays, solemn meetings, military parades were held here, the latest technical inventions were tested.
During the war of 1941-1945, the palace of Gatchina and the palace itself survived the fate of all suburban palaces of Leningrad. The three-year German occupation caused significant damage to the masterpieces of Russian architecture. It is pleasant and joyful that much has already been recreated in the palace and restoration work continues. The last open object is the Temple of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity, where the famous shrines were kept, gifted to the owner of the palace, Emperor Paul by the Knights Hospitallers.
