Saint Petersburg

Temples of Nevsky Prospekt

Description:

Nevsky Prospect is the most tolerant street in St. Petersburg. It is here that churches of different faiths peacefully coexist. Since the time of Peter the Great, when foreign specialists were invited to build a young city, there was a tradition of treating non-believers with respect, so land was allocated for the construction of churches on the main street of St. Petersburg. In the twentieth century, the Soviet government ordered to repurpose the buildings of temples for different needs, and appeared in the temples swimming pool, skating rink, museum of atheism, numerous warehouses, production enterprises, libraries, hostels, etc. In the 90s of the last century, the churches of Nevsky Prospekt, with the exception of the Dutch Reformed Church, were returned to believers and today we can visit the restored monasteries. During the tour, we will visit the Lutheran Church, see the famous Peterschule, see the building of the French Reformed Church, if possible, visit the converted building of the Dutch Church, visit the Kazan Cathedral, visit the Catholic Church of St. Catherine and the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Perhaps additionally a visit to the Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
