Saint Petersburg

Individual excursion to Peterhof from St. Petersburg

Description:

In Peterhof, all guests of St. Petersburg aspire to the fountains. Perhaps the most famous of all the St. Petersburg suburbs, arguing with Versailles itself. The splendor of the fountains of the Lower Park is fascinating, impressive. Peterhof is the only imperial residence in the world located by the sea.

On the way to Peterhof you will find a story about the sights encountered.

Our "Russian Versailles" is in no way inferior to the French counterpart, and in many ways surpasses it. Take at least the fact that the fountains in Peterhof work from morning to evening without weekends (with a break for the winter). And in a French park - two hours only on weekends.

Peterhof is perhaps the best place where the spirit of Peter’s era is clearly conveyed. Here was created a regular park of Dutch type, typical of the Baroque style. Its layout was developed personally by Peter I. If the emperor visited Peterhof in our time, he would learn a lot. Therefore, it is here that we tell in detail about Peter I, about the events of the early XVIII century.

But Peterhof is not only Peter I. Changes to his ensemble were made under Alexander I and Nicholas I. But they did not change the nature of the park, but only added to its versatility.

In Peterhof I will start the tour with a story about the Grand Peterhof Palace. I will continue her acquaintance with the Grand Cascade and the Samson Fountain. This is Peterhof's business card. From the observation deck near the palace, the central part of the park is best seen. Here I talk about the park as a whole, its structure and layout.

A walk through the Lower Park will begin with its western part. Conventionally, this is the female part of the park, which is marked by the Eve Fountain and the Marley Palace, conceived as a guest house. On the way we will meet the cascades of the Lion and the Golden Mountain. Marley and Marlin Pond are fenced off from the shore of the Gulf of Finland by an artificial embankment. We will climb it and see what Peter I aspired to - the Baltic Sea. From here in good weather you can see St. Petersburg and Kronstadt.

A walk along the shore of the bay will lead us to the Hermitage pavilion. This is the first such building. Only later will the Hermitages appear in Tsarskoye Selo and St. Petersburg.

The eastern part of the park is male territory. It is anchored by the Adam Fountain, a monument to Peter I, the Monplaisir Palace. Perhaps Monplaisir was the most favorite place of Peter I on the whole earth. While here in his office, he clearly saw the result of his rule – Russia’s access to the sea. This palace in the Dutch style corresponded to the personal tastes of the first Russian emperor.

Next to Montplezier we will meet fountains-jokes. It is easy to move from serious topics to the theme of humor and entertainment of the early XVIII century. And then - the fountain of the Sun, poultry (enclosures with swans and ducks). Not far from them is the Pyramid Fountain. Real virtual reality of the time of Peter I.

At the end of the tour, you can see the Roman fountains and the cascade of Chess Mountain. Then we go back to the car and go back to St. Petersburg.
