FABERGÉ MUSEUM
Description:
The Faberge Museum is located in the center of St. Petersburg, and is the owner of the largest collection of precious Easter eggs created by the famous jewelry house. In total, the museum has 13 Easter eggs, 9 of which previously belonged to the last Romanovs. Both the first and last items of the imperial series are presented.
The history of amazing Easter masterpieces began in 1885, when Emperor Alexander III ordered an egg for his wife, Maria Fedorovna. Maria Fyodorovna liked the Easter surprise so much that her husband decided to order an Easter egg gift from Faberge the next year. So there was a tradition according to which the Faberge company began to produce unique Easter masterpieces with surprises every year. After the death of Alexander III, the tradition of ordering precious Easter gifts by Faberge is preserved. Now Emperor Nicholas II annually acquires two Faberge Easter eggs: one for his mother, and the other for his wife, Alexandra Feodorovna.
In the museum you can see not only the collection of Easter eggs of the Faberge company, but also a unique collection of decorative and applied art: a collection of artistic silver, "objets de fantasie" (translated as "fantasy objects"), enamel-guilloche (one of the business cards of the Faberge jewelry house), ladies' haberdashery, available to various segments of the population.
