The Russian Museum has the most extensive collection of Russian fine art in the world! This is a whole complex of buildings, one of which we offer you to visit in the framework of this tour, namely, the Mikhailovsky Palace.
The museum was opened by decree of Emperor Nicholas II at the end of the XIX century in the Grand Duke’s Palace (architect – Karl Ivanovich Rossi, who owns the projects of many ensembles in St. Petersburg).
The museum’s collection includes more than 400,000 exhibits, including ancient Russian icons, painting and sculpture. You will learn about the history of this palace and museum, walk through the halls that once belonged to the Grand Dukes, where richly decorated interiors have been preserved. You will see the ancient Russian icons of Andrei Rublev (XV century!) and his follower Dionysius; sculptures of such outstanding masters as Bartolomeo Carlo Rastrelli (father of architect B.F. Rastrelli), Feodosii Shchedrin, Fedor Shubin; paintings of great artists, among which you will meet Aivazovsky, Antropov, Bryullov, Bruni, Repin, Surikov, Vasnetsov, Kuindzhi, Vishnyakov, Borovikovsky, Levitsky, Losenko and many others!
The Russian Museum contains such masterpieces as: “Zaporozhets” and “Burlaki on the Volga” by I. Repin, “The Last Day of Pompeii” by K. Bryullov, “The Ninth Shaft” by I. Aivazovsky, “The Knight at the Crossroads” by V. Vasnetsov, “Black Supermatic Square” by K. Malevich.
The museum leaves a lasting impression, there are masterpieces that at least once, but you need to see with your own eyes!
