Petersburg's womb
Description:
Where was Dostoevsky? How was the doctor thrown out of the hospital window and what caused it? What professions were in demand in the XIX century?
On this tour you will find out where the Vyazem Lavra was located and why this place is called the “womb of St. Petersburg”. Here you will discover the secret of the “yellow ticket” from Dostoevsky’s novel “Crime and Punishment”.
The spirit of the city can be most felt in contrasts - and one of the most striking contrasts of the ceremonial capital was Sennaya Square and its surroundings - "the womb of St. Petersburg". Here you could meet those who in the daytime were not allowed to appear on the “noble” embankments, Nevsky Prospekt, Palace Square or Big Sea Street; those who represented the city masses: merchants, traders, peasants, raznochintsy, beggars, charlatans of all stripes. Saturated urban life boiled here, and this life in all its diversity and without embellishment painted in his lines Dostoevsky, Krestovsky, Nekrasov.
What was the other side of St. Petersburg? This will be discussed on our tour.
We will see not only Sennaya Square and its buildings, but also the houses of the Yusupovs and Poltoratskys, remember the destroyed churches - Uspenskaya on Sennaya Square and Voznesenskaya on the Catherine Canal, we will visit the house of Raskolnikov.
